Maine based performance rally team Last Ditch Racing is making final preparations to their Open Class Subaru WRX in anticipation of attending round two of the Canadian Rally Championship - the Rocky Mountain Rally in Calgary, Alberta, Canada May 29, 2004.
The team is coming off a 10th place overall and sixth in Open Class in the snowy Rallye Perce-Neige-Maniwaki. The team also took their first rally podium in the concurrent Ontario Regional event and a third in Open class. The team is currently 10th in the CARS Championship standings.

The team of Driver/owner John Cassidy and Co-driver Dave Getchell are excited about their trip out West. "In 2003, we attended the Rim of the Wold Rally in California. While the event itself was fantastic, the cost was simply to high for us to consider it for 2004. Tow money and subsidized transport are not available for that event. Dave and I decided to focus on the Canadian Championship for 2004 as we value the superb organization of the rallies and warmth with which we are welcomed by organizers and competitors as well."
Cassidy and Getchell are entering the second year of their partnership in the car and their climb up into the top ten indicates that things are going well. "Dave and I really click in the car. When we decided to move to a turbo car, we knew we were going to be at the bottom of a fairly steep learning curve, but we're making steady progress and continuing our history of consistency. Our 10th position at the 2003 Rallye Defi-St. Agathe/Duhamel and the 10th at Rallye Perce-Neige/Maniwaki show our consistency. In both events, we were only seconds out of ninth position."
The team is running an aggressive season, running two cars-the Open Class WRX and an Open Class Impreza RS. Last Ditch Racing are campaigning the Canadian Championship as well as select US SCCA ProRally events in their turbo car. Getchell pilots the second car in SCCA ClubRally and RallyCross events. Getchell currently is second in the Modified Class in the New England RallyCross championship.
After Rocky Mountain, the team will fly back to the East coast and campaign their second car in the Susquehannock Trail ProRally in Pennsylvania the following weekend. Says Cassidy, "Two Pro events in one week is a challenge, but the team and partner support is there to enable us to take it on."
